  A man arrested in April for breaking into rapper, Eminem‘s mansion outside Detroit in the US, stood over the rapper’s bed and threatened to kill him, a court has heard.   Matthew David Hughes, 27, snuck past Eminem's security around 4 a.m. and entered the home by throwing a stone through the kitchen window.   Eminem, who reportedly woke up when the alarm went off, found Hughes standing in his living room before being taken down by security.    Police were called to the scene and booked Hughes on April 6, and he remained in custody at Macomb County Jail with a $50,000 bond. Customs intercept Dubai-bound passenger with 2,886 ATM cards concealed in noodles carton in Lagos

  A Dubai-bound passenger with 2,886 Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card carefully concealed in a noodles has been intercepted by operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) command and handed over to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).   The Kano passenger identified as Ishaq Abubakar with Passport Number A08333717, was intercepted on Thursday September 10 while travelling to Dubai via Emirates Evacuation flight.   The Deputy Controller of customs in-charge of the MMIA, Abdulmumin Bako said in a media briefing;    “At about 1145 hours on Aug. 22, at the departure hall gate ’B’ of the MMIA, Abubakar with Passport Number A08333717 from Kano State travelling to Dubai via Emirates flight was intercepted with 2,863 ATM Cards and 4 sim Cards by our officers on duty.   Iconic Hollywood star, Chuck Norris is suing a company using his name to sell boner pills.   The actor sued Bio-Molecular Solutions and Biogenetics for using his famous name and face to promote a product called Provitra which is like Viagra, after his wife Gena who is also suing the company discovered the scam in June.    TMZ reported that Gena saw an online ad with a provocative headline "A Tragic End Today for Chuck Norris." Nigeria will save over N1trn annually from removal of fuel subsidy – Sylva

Resident doctors suspend their nationwide strike

  The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended the nationwide industrial action.   The association began the strike on Monday, September 7 to press home their demand which includes payments of its COVID-19 allowances, health insurance for frontline workers and others.   The President of NARD, Dr Aliyu Sokumba, confirmed the suspension of the strike this evening. The suspension came after the Federal Government and the doctors reached an agreement at a meeting presided over by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, in Abuja today.   At the meeting, the FG made it known that it had paid N9.3bn to insurance companies for Life Group Insurance and payment of death benefits for health workers, adding that enrolment was by the submission of nominal rolls by the various health institutions, which NARD had been mandated at a previous meeting to accomplish.   On the payment of outstanding 2014, 2015, and 2016 arrears, th...

Abia NSCDC operative to face prosecution for killing a man

  The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) official who shot and killed a man at Umuokpo community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, will be facing prosecution if found guilty at the end of an investigation.    The NSCDC official identified as  Inspector Robinson Otobong Abel reportedly shot and killed one Onyedikachi Nwaogu in front of his compound at Umuokoro, Umuokpo on Wednesday September 9.    Commenting on the incident, Abia State commandant of the NSCDC Nnamdi Nwannukwu promised that the corps would carry out full investigation into the killing in order to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting.    He said;    “The officer would be made to face the full weight of the law, if found guilty during the investigation."

Bandits abduct Zamfara treasurer’s three children, kill neigbour

  Gunmen suspected to be bandits abducted three children of Zamfara State Sub-treasurer, Alhaji Yusuf Marafa, and shot dead his neighbour in Nahuche ward, Bungudu Local Government Area of the State.   Sources who spoke to Vanguard on Thursday, September 10, identified the kidnapped children as Mansur Yusuf, Sa ’adu Yusuf and Anas Yusuf and the neighbour, Malam Kamalu Nahuche. According to one indigene of the area who identified himself as Alhaji Dahiru, the kidnappers, who were on many motorcycles, drove into the community and went straight to the sub – treasurer’s house, where they whisked away the three children. Niger State Govt sacks 80 civil servants over fraud

  The Niger State Government has dismissed 80 civil servants for allegedly placing themselves on salaries above their current status.   The state Head of Service, Salamatu Abubakar, who disclosed this during a press conference in Minna, said that their dismissal was approved by the state Executive Council at its meeting on Thursday, September 10.   The Head of Service Mrs Abubakar added that the officers placed themselves on allowances above their current status and entitlement.   She said the report of the committee was submitted to the office of the head of service which transmitted it to the Auditor General for further action.   The head of service added that the report was later presented to the state executive council, which approved the dismissal of the 80 officers from service on Thursday.   She said that the officers were from the Ministries of Health and Education, as well as Hospital Services and Management Board and Primary Health Care Developmen...

Family cries out as man dies in police custody in Lagos

  A 38-year-old man, who was arrested for allegedly planning to abduct the monarch of Isiu in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, has died in the custody of the Zone 2 police command and his family wants answers.   Yemi Taiwo, a land Agent, was arrested alongside one of his friends, Femi Animashaun, by a combined team of local vigilante members in Ikorodu, popularly known as Onyabo, and some palace thugs known as Tobalase in Isiu community.   In a video made available to newsmen, the two accused persons were stripped and tortured in the premises of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area.   The wife of the deceased, Olabisi Taiwo, said her husband left home in the Gberigbe area of Ikorodu for Isiu, where he bought some plots of land, and was arrested.   She said in tears: "He told me that he would first stop at his boss's office before going to site but he never came back to meet his two children and wife.
